Situated 4km from Sligo town Carrowmore represents the largest collection of megalithic monuments in Ireland and one of the most significant sites of it’s kind in Europe. One of the tombs is said to date back to 3,000 years before the pyramids and is possibly the oldest building in the world.
Drumcliffe, Co Sligo
Drumcliffe Church of Ireland stands on the site of an older church and it is in this graveyard that WB Yeats is buried. St Colmcille founded a monastery here in approximately 575AD and the last known abbot died in 1503. John Butler Yeats, Yeats great grandfather was Rector here 1811 – 1846. Beside the road is the stump of a Round Tower which was struck by lightening in 1396. Tradition says that it will ultimately fall on the wisest man who passes it! The High Cross consists of what were two separate parts originally. The east face depicts Adam and Eve, David and Goliath etc while the west face shows the Crucifixion.

Situated 11km from Sligo town on the north-east shore of Lough Gill. This early 17th century restored plantation castle has been restored using traditional craftsmanship over the past years and houses an interpretative centre with guided tours. The Rose of Innisfree tour leaves from Parkes Castle daily.

Situated in Sligo town this mid 13th century Dominican Friary was founded by Maurice Fitzgerald. The abbey is full of Gothic and Renaissance sculptures and well preserved cloisters. It contains the only sculptured 15th century high altar to survive in any Irish monastic church. The Abbey is a very popular tourist attraction in Sligo.
Cliffony, Co Sligo
Restored after excavation in 1935, this is a magnificent example of a full-court tomb and is easily accessed from the Bundoran-Sligo road.
Tobernalt, Sligo
Located 5 km from Sligo, the Holy Well is a local historic place of pilgrimage used by Irish Catholics in penal times when they were not allowed to hold Mass. The centre piece of the Holy Well is the Mass Rock where a number of religious services are still held every year.

Located 7km off the N4, north west of Sligo City, in Drumcliffe Bay. The famous childhood home of Countess Constance Markievicz and her poet sister Eva Gore-Booth. The Neo-Classical Greek Revival styled house is build of local cut grey limestone and stands overlooking Sligo Bay under the shadow of Benbulben. The house and gardens have undergone significant restoration and are in the process of being transformed to their former glory.
Tours of the house and gardens take place regularly March to September. House and garden tours by appointment all year round.
