Just a 15-minute drive from Sligo Park Hotel brings you to a world of ocean views, spectacular sunsets, delicious food, and breathtaking scenery. Famous as one of Ireland's top surfing destinations, Strandhill is a vibrant seaside village with so much more to offer. Whether you're planning a family outing, a romantic afternoon, or simply want to experience the best of the Wild Atlantic Way, Strandhill is well worth a visit.

Most people know Strandhill as a surfer's paradise – and it certainly lives up to that reputation. But did you know that, besides surfing, this charming village has plenty of other activities and attractions to enjoy?

If you're visiting for the first time, start with a picturesque walk along the coast. The path takes you through the famous Strandhill Dunes to Killaspugbrone, the ruins of an ancient church dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. Steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty, the site also includes an old cemetery, offering visitors a chance to experience a fascinating piece of Ireland's past while enjoying the fresh Atlantic air.

After a good walk, it's time for some great food. Strandhill is home to a fantastic selection of cafés, restaurants, pubs, and casual dining spots. Whether you're in the mood for fresh seafood, a traditional Irish pub meal, artisan coffee with handmade gelato, pizza, or even a gourmet burger from a food truck, there's something to suit every taste.

For wellness enthusiasts, Strandhill is also the perfect place to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature. If you're looking for a truly memorable experience, I highly recommend a visit to VOYA Seaweed Baths, where you can soak in traditional seaweed baths while enjoying stunning ocean or mountain views. It's an experience you'll never forget and one you'll want to return to again.

If you're visiting on a Sunday, don't miss the Strandhill People's Market, held at Strandhill Airport. Here you'll find local crafts, homemade food, baked treats, textiles, and unique gifts created by local producers. It's the perfect place to pick up souvenirs for yourself or thoughtful presents for family and friends.

Golf lovers won't be disappointed either. Strandhill Golf Club offers one of Ireland's finest links courses, combining challenging golf with spectacular coastal views for an unforgettable round.

And if all of that still isn't enough to convince you, I have one final reason to visit – the sunsets.

As the sun slowly disappears into the Atlantic Ocean, the sky comes alive with incredible colours. It's difficult to find the right words to describe just how beautiful they are. Instead, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
